Blog

Welcome to the HJ Engineering Blog

We’re launching this blog to share what we learn from our engineering work across Australia’s crane and construction industry.

What to expect

We’ll write about the engineering problems we encounter and the approaches we take to solve them — from crane lift planning and temporary works design to the computational tools we build along the way.

Topics will include:

  • Crane engineering — lift planning, outrigger loads, ground bearing, and rigging design
  • Temporary works — practical approaches to scaffold checks, falsework, and stability analysis
  • Engineering tools — updates on our sling length calculator, access map, and other tools we’re developing
  • Standards and practice — how we apply AS 3775, AS 4100, and other Australian Standards in practice

Why a blog?

Most engineering consultancies don’t publish their working notes. We think that’s a missed opportunity. The crane and construction industry benefits when engineers share practical knowledge — not just theory, but the real-world considerations that shape good engineering decisions.

We’ll keep posts practical, concise, and grounded in the work we actually do.

Stay tuned.
